History of the Department

  Our university has created all the conditions for applicants and teachers to engage in physical culture and sports, increase the functional capabilities of the body and improve their health. The center of this work is the Department of Physical Education and Sports, as well as the sports club “Avtodorozhnyk” named after Olympic champion Yuri Poyarkov. The Department of Physical Education and Sports was founded as one of the first in KhNADU in 1936. All these years, the primary task of the department has been and remains the priority of preparing applicants for physical self-development, a healthy lifestyle, work, increasing the functional capabilities of the body and improving health, as well as educating athletes - applicants with high qualifications. In different years, the department was headed by famous teachers in the field of physical education and sports: E.I. Kiselyov, M.T. Landar, Ph.D. L.I. Dursenyov, two-time Olympic champion Yu.M. Poyarkov, A.F. Alekseev, Ph.D. Prof. V.Z. Babushkin. Currently, the department is headed by M.F. Kurylko - associate professor, national football referee, delegate of the Football Federation of Ukraine "Premier League", Vice-president of the Football Association of Ukraine of applicants. M.F. Kurylko - winner of the annual competition "Higher School - Best Names" in the nomination "Best Head of the Department of Physical Education and Sports", "Honored Worker of Physical Culture and Sports of Ukraine". Highly qualified specialists work at the department. Currently, the university has 16 sports sections, in which multiple World Champions, European Champions, winners and prize-winners of Ukraine in various sports are engaged. For many years, the KhNADU team has taken an honorable first place in the comprehensive Spartakiad of universities in Kharkiv. An important achievement is the annual holding of the following competitions: the "University" Spartakiad in 11 sports, the "Freshman" Spartakiad in 9 sports, and the "Student Campus" Spartakiad in 5 sports. In total, the department staff holds about 35 sports events at the university during the year, in which a large number of higher education applicants participate. All educational and sports and mass work is carried out in modern gyms, on specialized playgrounds for playing basketball, volleyball, football, in wrestling and boxing halls. The gyms are equipped with simulators for athletic gymnastics. In 2009, a new specialized hall for fitness and aerobics was put into operation. The Department of Physical Education and Sports has a scientific and methodological office, where applicants and teachers conduct research in the field of sports pedagogy, psychology, and biomechanics.
